Are you more of a night or morning person?

In a world where the night often takes the spotlight, there exists a quiet magic in the mornings —a magic known only to people who relish the early hours. Morning people.

Being a morning person isn’t merely about waking up early; it’s a lifestyle—an embrace of the tranquil moments that set the tone for the day ahead.

BUT I am not your stereotypical morning person: 1. I am very grumpy for about an hour after waking up 2. I don’t like to being spoken to or touched for that hour 3. Let me have my space I love sunrises, morning peace, waking up with the birds and starting my day slowly and intentionally… on my own. No other people. Not even my husband and children.

One of the most beautiful aspects of being a morning person is the gift of time. While everyone else sleeps, I find peace in moments of quiet reflection, setting intentions for the day, and indulging in morning rituals. For me that’s a glass of water with my medication, and then savouring a cup of hot coffee. For other’s it might be practicing yoga, going for a run, or simply enjoying the luxury of a slow-paced breakfast. The early hours become a sanctuary for self-care and personal growth.

Studies have shown that morning people tend to be more proactive, organized, and optimistic. They often exhibit higher productivity levels and a greater sense of accomplishment throughout the day. The early hours offer uninterrupted focus—a precious commodity in a world brimming with distractions.

The mornings can also serve as a time where creativity flourishes. The quiet lends itself to uncluttered thoughts, sparking inspiration and fostering innovation. Writers, artists, and creators often find their muse in the serenity of dawn, harnessing the tranquil moments to birth their most profound ideas. For years I wrote in my journal first thing in the morning, which was my creative outlet. If I left it until later in the day I would overthink and struggle to find the words. In the morning it flowed, so if you’re a creative soul I highly recommend getting some ideas down in the early hours.

When I get these slow mornings alone, I LOVE them. I like to be awake a good hour before my children so that I can make the most of it. I move into the lounge and snuggle down into my nest of cushions. I sip my first coffee whilst listening to a podcast and going through my messages/ emails. And if they’re still asleep when that’s done I’ll get started on some work. I love having a productive start to the day because then I know that even if something comes up later in the day I don’t need to worry. It has massively reduced my stress and anxiety.

For those who want to join the ranks of morning people, it begins with small steps. Set your alarm a few minutes earlier each day, establish a morning routine that improves your wellbeing, and relish in the quiet moments before the rush of the day commences.

I want to end this post by saying that I am a also a lover of lazy evenings, cosy loungewear and sipping a glass of wine. But as far as my mental health, productivity, and organisation go, my mornings are more important to me.

In a world that perpetually races against time, being a morning person is a quiet rebellion—an affirmation of the belief that some of life’s most precious moments unfold in the stillness of the morning.

Have a wonderful day.
