WHAT TO EXPECT
When working with me you can expect

A FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION
Before deciding whether you wish to try me as your counsellor and committing to paying for sessions I offer every potential client a free phone call, or you can email me, to discuss your needs and to find out whether we would be a good fit. A good relationship between client and therapist is important and I understand that I will not be everyone's 'type' (I won't take it personally, don't worry!).
I will always be honest about whether I feel I can help you or whether another professional may be better suited.
FIRST SESSION
There is some paperwork to get through before the first session begins which can be emailed to you or we can go through together at the beginning of the session. This includes going over session times, fees and payment, and your client contract.
During this first session I would like to discuss in more detail what brought you to counselling. We can also talk about what it is you hope to gain or achieve during our sessions and what you hope to take forward into the rest of your life once our sessions end.
This would be a good time for us to set some goals that can be used to guide your sessions in the right direction. These are not concrete, no therapy journey is. Life is unpredictable and we will take it as it comes.

MOVING FORWARD
Let's see what we can do to move you towards those goals. The methods we use depend on your preference and your circumstances so I cannot say for sure here what the sessions will entail.
It may be that you are seeking emotional support, someone you can speak your mind to and that you require little feedback from. It may be that you have a particular issue from your past or present that you want to discuss in depth with a guide. It is important to remember that it is not the place of a counsellor to tell you what to do, only to support you in your exploration, decision making and action.
I usually aim for one 50 minute session per week with counselling clients although this is flexible.
SAYING GOODBYE
This may be a "goodbye forever" or it may be an "I'll see you again". We never truly know what the future may bring but a day will come where we will say goodbye, at least for a short while.

Before ending our therapeutic relationship we will prepare. We will have closing sessions to ensure that you have the tools and techniques you need to continue independently. We will also make arrangements for what to do should you decide that you wish to return for further sessions.
